Don't Make Me Kill You

I Bought a Haunted House

I Bought a Haunted House

Short Horror Story: The story happened a long time ago but I only have the courage to write it now. I am not good at writing so please forgive any mistakes. My husband and I saved up some money and bought a small house in 2019 for our little family. Although the house was not too old, no one had lived there for a long time because the previous owner had gone abroad. The house suited our needs with two bedrooms and a small fruit garden, making it quite cool even on hot summer days. While renovating the house, I found a porcelain jar behind the kitchen that looked like something from a movie. It was covered by a wooden button, inside of which was a rope and a beautiful charm. I kept the jar, but threw away the rope and the charm.

After two weeks of living there, strange things started to happen. One night, my daughter woke up crying and saying she was hungry, but it was already 1 am and she did not usually eat at that time. I tried to comfort her and told her to wait until breakfast, but she insisted on having a steamed bun. Surprised, I went to the kitchen and saw that we did indeed have steamed buns. However, my daughter had never liked them before. The next night, the same thing happened and the following night as well. She would always cry at exactly 1 am, saying she was hungry and wanted to eat something specific that we had in the fridge or pantry.

Moreover, during this time, my daughter would often disappear from sight and then suddenly appear when I called her. She also became less active and ate very little in the morning. One night, when my husband was bathing our daughter, I went to put some snacks in the fridge. But as soon as I opened the door, I saw the charm inside the porcelain jar lying on the shelf. I was sure that I had thrown it away.

One night, the narrator asked her husband if he had noticed anything strange in their home. He revealed that he had seen shadows and heard voices, but never spoke up because he thought his wife wouldn't believe him. They decided to find a shaman to help with the problem. The next day, the narrator's mother-in-law visited and offered to call a trusted shaman she knew. That same night, while everyone was asleep, the grandmother woke up and started gasping for air, claiming that someone was choking her. Their daughter said that it was the woman who usually ate with her at night. Unable to contact the shaman, they were all afraid to sleep and waited until morning to seek help.

As I was taking a shower that night, I heard voices outside. I was very scared but tried to shower quickly and called my husband but got no answer. While drying myself, I heard a creepy laugh from behind. I turned around and saw a woman swinging on the bathroom ceiling. I screamed and ran out of the room. I collapsed a few steps later because I was too scared. The woman had a green and eerie face, and her laughter echoed. My husband heard me scream and came to help. I pointed at the bathroom, but he saw nothing.

I calmed down after lying down for a while and told my husband what happened. He said to keep the light on and stick together wherever we go at night. While sleeping that night, I felt a weight on my chest. When I opened my eyes, I was shocked to see the same woman hanging from the ceiling, flailing her legs and rolling her eyes. I tried to scream, but something was blocking my throat. I wanted to wake my husband, but my body was rigid. That terrifying face came closer and closer to me, with blood dripping from her eyes and mouth. I tried as hard as I could to scream, finally succeeding. I woke up sweating, feeling like I just had a terrible nightmare. I hugged my husband tightly, and we stayed awake until morning.

After the priest helped us and gave us a new charm, nothing happened again. We no longer feel cold, but my child keeps asking why the woman never plays with her anymore. I can only say that she is busy going back to her hometown.
